    How Linerless label Printing Works

Linerless label printing is an innovative new way of printing labels which uses the same thermal technology as conventional label printing. Linerless label printing uses a strip of label material which has a special silicon release coating that the label adhesive sticks to instead of being stuck to a silicon coated liner (backing paper).

The label material has a semi-gloss finish and has superior resistance to water, heat, chemicals, and scratches. The print quality of linerless label material is excellent and the cost of the labels are the same as comparable direct thermal labels (with a protective topcoat) with a backing paper. You can be assured that linerless labels stick every bit as well as labels on lining paper.  The adhesive has been designed to adhere to any type of packaging material.

When the label printer has printed your label, it cuts the label material and presents it to you one label at a time. As soon as you have removed the label from the printer it will print the next label. This is ideal for applications where you need to apply the label to the product at the time of printing.

The Environmental Advantages of Linerless Label Printing

Many businesses are being mindful of making better choices for the planet and using linerless labels is a more sustainable solution to label printing as the manufacturing process and transportation of the label material uses less Co2 than that of traditional labels with a backing paper.

    Advantages of Linerless Labels:

    • Significantly less Co2 is used in both the manufacturing process and transportation of the label material
    • Reduced landfill waste when used liner is disposed of after the labels have been printed
    • Reduced carbon footprint
    • 50% reduction in waste
    • Reduced landfill waste when excess label material (the label material that was in the gaps between the labels and the outside edges) is taken off during the manufacturing process and disposed of

The Practical Advantages of Linerless Label Printing

As well as the environmental advantages there are also many very important practical advantages of linerless label printing.

    Advantages of Linerless Labels:

    • You get approximately 40% more label length on the roll
    • The number of times the label roll is replaced is reduced due to there being more label material on each roll
    • Productivity is increased due to there being the lack of lining paper to remove. You just take the label from the printer and apply to your product with nothing left to throw away.
    • You can print different lengths of labels without changing the label roll in your printer
    • There is never any need to calibrate the label gap sensor on your label printer
    • There is a huge Health and Safety benefit from not having trailing silicon lining paper on the floor which can make a trip hazard and can get caught in forklift trucks wheels.
    • 50% reduction in waste. After you have printed your labels there is literally nothing left to throw away
    • Less space is needed to store the rolls as the same size rolls have more label material on them
    • No waste collection costs when the label lining paper fills up your bin
