7 REASONS YOU SHOULD NEVER LET YOUR CHINESE SUPPLIER PAY THE FREIGHT

- Cargo can be held to ransom.
- No point of contact where delays occur.
- No insurance cover if cargo is lost or stolen.
- Exorbitant and avoidable handling fees can be charged by receiving agent.
It can be tempting when placing an order for your import to accept a price that includes shipping costs. But the biggest danger is the hidden charges (sometimes referred to as hand-over fees) their receiving agent in the UK may add to the shipment. These can be exorbitant and are totally avoidable.
If possible, ask your supplier to quote FOB or FCA terms and appoint a UK based BIFA registered freight forwarder to handle the shipment for you. This will give you clarity of your costs and the service level you will be receiving.
