A LED (light-emitting diode) is a semi-conductor device that emits visible light when a current passes through it. LED products are becoming increasingly popular as in the example of lighting, they consume less electricity, last longer and emit little heat. There are a number of products which use LED but most of them are to satisfy people's lighting needs. They can be installed in large outdoor areas to provide lighting, either mounted on poles or as wall washers. Within buildings, illumination is often provided by LED recessed or alcove light bulbs. For more specialised uses, Christmas tree lights and the panel backlighting of display screens can be this type. There are many accessories for these products which include all light fittings such as connectors, lighting controls or switches, dimmers and bulbs. There is also mounting equipment, Wi-Fi controllers, cables, adapters and rechargeable battery packs. LED products are being installed more and more, not only in homes but also in commercial and industrial buildings and require specific accessories. LED recessed lighting is particularly popular in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways while kitchen cabinets can use these fittings for spotlights. LED panel lighting is seen on flat-panel computer display monitors.
