Belt Conveyors
There are many types of conveyor systems but the belt conveyor system is one of the most known. It essentially consists of two or more pulleys (or drums) with an endless loop of carrying medium (the actual conveyer belt bar) that rotates around them. One or both pulleys are powered, which moves the belt forwards or backwards. The powered pulley is called the ‘drive’ while the redundant one is all the idler and both are essential to the workings of the conveyor belt. The main purpose of the belt conveyor is material handling, moving large volumes of produce and materials – like grain, salt or sand. A conveyor belt doesn’t always run vertically, it can also run like a slide, lowering produce from one level to another (helped by gravity) or it can also work to bring materials to a higher level (like in mining). The most common conveyor belt is one you will see every single day, at the super market.
