Cranes
A crane is a machine that is used to lift and lower materials, as well as moving them horizontally. It is generally equipped with a hoist rope, wire ropes or chains and sheaves which help in the lifting and moving process. In terms of size, cranes range from the smallest jib cranes, used inside workshops, to the tallest tower cranes, which are used in constructing tall buildings. Mini-cranes are often used in construction because they can reach tight place, while floating cranes are used to build oil rigs and even salvage sunken ships. Cranes have a mechanical advantage over humans in their ability to lift heavy things and move them from one location to another and this makes them commonplace in construction, oil industry, freight industry (for loading and unloading), transport industry as well as the manufacturing industry (for assembling heavy equipment).
