Protective foam is a type of protective cushioning used to protect items that are packaged, particularly during transit. The purpose of protective foam is to protect particularly fragile items or to hold items in place so that they do not move around during shipment. Protective foam works by offering cushioning, which minimises movement, and controls the impact of shock and vibration. Items can be wrapped in foam, placed into foam foams or encased in loose foam. Types of protective foam include loose fill, foam bags, Styrofoam, and foam sheets. Protective foam is used the safe transportation and storage of goods. It used by many industries including retail, manufacturing, engineering, packaging, logistics and freight.
