Shoulder Screws
Shoulder screws are also known as stripper bolts and shoulder bolts. Essentially, a shoulder screw is a machine that features an integral journal (known as the shoulder) in between the head of the screw and its thread. There are three main sections to a shoulder screw: the head, the thread and the shoulder itself. Shoulder screws are available in a wide range of specifications – the shoulder diameter and its length are the key measurements, but head types and thread types can vary according to need to. Precision-grade shoulder screw diameters are the type suitable for use with bearings and pulleys. Commercial-grade shoulder screws tend to have a greater tolerance range. Shoulder screws are specialized screws but they are used in a large number of applications across many industries, from aerospace to the manufacture of many consumer products. The unique feature of shoulder screws makes them incredibly versatile. Gears, pulleys and sprockets are able to rotate at low to medium speeds on shoulder screws. Bearings can be mounted on shoulders as can shoulder-mounted springs. This makes shoulder screws an extremely adaptable component in many applications.
