Cotter Pins
Typically, cotter pins are used as a device to prevent nuts becoming loose and unscrewing from the shaft they are attached to. Cotter pins are also used to restrain clevis pins. Due to machine production, varied types of cotter pins are now available with specific designs for particular applications. Cotter pins are produced in both A2 and A4 stainless steel, as well as self-coloured and zinc-plated mild steel. Other materials used for cotter pins include brass and phosphor bronze. Cotter pins have a variety of uses, including protecting nuts from loosening in shafts. Many different specifications of cotter pins are now widely available, including drive-open, hammer lock and tee head cotter pins. Cotter pins are versatile and are used extensively in the aerospace and military industries.
