Arc Welding
Arc welding joins metal to metal by using electricity. In this process, the electricity creates enough heat to melt metal which, as they cool, bind. Metals are melted by using a welding power supply to create an electric arc between an electrode and the base material. Arc welding processes may be manual, semi-automatic, or fully automated, with the most common types of arc welding being a shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), which is also known as manual metal arc welding (MMAW) or stick welding. Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), commonly called MIG (for metal/inert-gas), is a semi-automatic or automatic welding process, while Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) is a variation of the GMAW technique widely used in construction. Arc welding is performed in repair work or production of metal goods, particularly in construction and the automotive industry.
